Trained and registered counselors offer objective information to assist seniors and other Medicare recipients on Medicare, make decisions about their health plan coverage. HICAP can help a consumer understand Medicare; compare Medicare Part D (prescription drug benefit) plans; compare private Medicare supplemental plans; review Medicare Advantage plan options, including HMOs; develop a system to organize doctor and hospital bills; file Medicare and private insurance claims; prepare Medicare appeals or challenge claim denials; learn about government assistance programs; explore long-term care options; and clarify your rights as a health care consumer. HICAP counselors do not sell any type of health care coverage. They do not endorse or recommend any specific plan or policy. Counseling is by appointment only.
